Step 1 : Gathering Tools:
Required tools to do manicure at home should be collected first. The tools needed are list below:
- Nail clippers, nails can be trimmed if required
- Emery board and nail buffer
- Cuticle pusher and nippers
- Cuticle remover
- Hand/nail moisturizer
- Base coat
- Nail polish
- Clear topcoat
Step 2 : Take off old nail polish:
Use an acetone-based nail-polish remover is used to remove any previously applied nail polish. Make sure that the remover used to remove the nail polish does not come in contact with your sensitive skin near the nails. If the nail polish is too old or if the nails have too many coatings, then it takes a while to remove them.
Step 3: Nail grooming
Clip and sharpen the nails, if necessary, then shape them by filing them gently. The nails look best when it is slightly rounded or with square round edges. It is advisable to prevent the use of metal or coarse nail files to avoid damage. Abrasive emery board or crystal nail file can be used instead. Use an abrasive buffer to smoothen the sides and the tops. Also make sure that you don’t buff the nails too smooth, so that the polish won’t run and can lightly spread right off towards the edge of nail. Use Nail cleaners to remove any dirt stuck beneath the nails and on the sides.
Step 4: Nourishing hands
Its important to give your nails the same gentle care as you would to any other part of your body. Soak your nails in lukewarm water for 2-3 minutes. Add your favorite liquid moisturizing soap into it. This process will relax your hands and soften the nails for further filing and buffing. Dry your hands and apply some cuticle oil / moisturizing lotion to the hands. With the help of the cuticle pusher, push back the cuticles one at a time to loosen them up. Remove the excess skin with the help of a cuticle nipper. This should be done with at most care to avoid any cuts and damage to the nails.
Step 5: Scrub and Moisturize
To facilitate the good blood circulation to the hands, it is advisable to scrub your hands gently with regular body scrub. try not scrub too hard to prevent the loss of shine on nails. Next, massage your hands with a rich cream or silky oil so that the cuticles, nails and hands feel rejuvenated.
Step 8: Applying Nail Polish
Use a cotton swab to remove any residue left on the nail’s surface. First apply the base coat to give the nails some surface. Allow it to dry for 2-3 minutes. Then apply a thin coat of your favorite nail shade on it. generally its suggested to apply the nail shade from the side of the nail. After its dried, apply one more coat to get more shine and bright color. Finally apply a top coat to make the nail polish to last longer. Once the nails are completely dry, gently moisturize the hands once again if needed.
